Australia and Brazil are the closest competitors to U.S. cotton. All three countries produce machine picked, HVI graded, quality cotton mainly for the export market.
Australia and Brazil have been harvesting historically high levels of cotton production over the last several years. Australia just harvested their 2022/23 crop, which Brazil is in the process of harvesting now. The latter new crop production plus larger-than-average Brazilian stocks imply potential competition for 2023/24 U.S. exports.
